GROUND DRIVE

This machine has a basic shape comparable to our popular 4 cubic metre manure spreader. The hydraulic drive system is broadly similar. However the sides of the bin have a shallower angle.

 The chain conveyor has closely spaced flight bars. It is superior to a belt conveyor in load capacity, durability and consistency. It is driven by hydraulic power, which is regulated by a rotary control valve turned by one of the ground wheels. This system requires very little torque transfer through the ground drive. The main advantage gained is the elimination of any variation in the application rate due to reduced slippage in the drive as the load lessens throughout the spreading cycle. The tendency for the driving wheel to lock and cause skidding or sideslip is eliminated. This simplified system is far more rugged than the multiple chain or gear reductions used by our competitors. There are four drive ratios available by simply moving a vee belt, much the same as for a bench drill.

The spinners are dished and turn at high speed. Their positioning, their R.P.M. and the area where the fertilizer is dropped onto them have been established through rigorous field tests. A wide and even spread pattern is the result.
