Are you in the market for a new manure spreader but not sure whether you should choose a PTO or ground driven model? We’ve got all the information here to help you decide what option is best for you.
PTO (power take off) driven spreaders run off the tractors power take off. This means that the spreader will always run at the same set speed (based on speed setting selected on the floor chain flow control valve) regardless of the tractor speed. This ensures an even delivery of the product being spread onto the ground.
Ground driven spreaders work entirely off the speed of the tractor. So if the tractor slows down or speeds up, the rate of the product being spread on the ground may vary. This potentially may provide an uneven covering.
An even coverage of manure or whatever product you’re spreading is important to ensure an efficient and cost effective outcome. Uneven or heaped manure can lead to uneven crop growth and production leading to poor yields.
All Wal-Ag Wallaby Spreaders are PTO driven as we believe this design gives our customers a much more consistent spread and the best possible outcome.
